Porcupine at the Lion Country Safari

North American Wildlife

Porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum)
The porcupine is primarily nocturnal and active year-round.  After a seven-month gestation, a single young porcupine is born in May or June.  The quills of the young are well formed and soft and will harden within an hour after the birth.
