The Real Winnie the Pooh Bear

Winnipeg

Located inside Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg is the statue of Harry Colebourn and his black Bear cub "Winnie".  It was while on his way to Britain to serve in WWI, that Harry bought the young bear from a trapper in White River, Ontario and named him "Winnie" short for his hometown of Winnipeg.  Winnie was donated to the London Zoo where he was often visited by a boy named Christopher Robin Milne.  He liked Winnie so much that he named his own stuffed bear "Winnie the Pooh", inspiring A.A. Milne, the boy's father to write the famous "Winnie the Pooh" Children's stories.

This postcard was mailed from Canadian in 2007.
