Common Loons in Wisconsin

North American Wildlife
Common Loon
The common loon is known for its haunting and mournful call.  It has Ben described as the"the sound that more than any other typifies the wilderness."  It's a powerful diver, occasionally submerging to a depth of 200 feet under the surface.  A dive will usually last no longer than 30 seconds, but it has been known to say under as long as two or three minutes.
