Hound Dog on a Bookshelf

Funny Dogs
Antonin Maly, Eda, Prague, 1980

Eda belonged to some married friends of mine, Michaela and Peter.  It took two strong men to get the dog onto the bookshelf.  Their fee was eight pork sausages - a Czech national food.

The Basset Hound is a short-legged breed of dog of the hound family. They are scent hounds that were originally bred for the purpose of hunting rabbits and hare.

The name Basset is derived from the French word bas, meaning "low", with the attenuating suffix -et, together meaning "rather low".
