A Puma from Belize, Mailed from Germany to the USA

I believe the translation from German is: Caribbean pumas like this magnificent specimen in Belize have become extremely rare. The photo was taken in an enclosure; in the wild, these shy predators would never let a human get so close.

This panoramic postcard was mailed from Germany in 2021.

Bobcat (Felis rufus).
The bobcat is secretive as well as curious.  It has keen eyesight and hearing that enable it to ambush its prey.  It is a small cat, wieghing (error - should be weighing) approximately 20 pounds and its 6-inch tail accounts for its name.  Its tufts of hair rising from its ears are used as a form of communication with other bobcats.

The young bobcat will leave its range of birth at 11 months and will seek out a range of its own.  A bobcat mother has been known to abandon her young because of the scarcity of food for her and her kittens.  Its ability to adapt to habitat and diet has made it possible for it to survive from swampland to wooded mountainsides.

Rainforest Cafe is a themed restaurant chain. The first location opened in the Mall of America in Minnesota, USA on February 3, 1994.

Each Rainforest Cafe restaurant is designed to depict some features of a tropical rainforest, including plant growth, mist, waterfalls and figures of rainforest animals. Some of the animals are animatronic and start making animals noises and move.  My favorite part of these restaurants is when there is a 'rain storm' inside.  All the lights dim and there is 'lightning' and then it starts to rain inside the restaurant.  Not on the customers, only in parts by the walls. But it is very fun.  Our family loved to eat here when we visited Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

The saber-toothed cat was a powerful and efficient hunter.  It used its powerful forelimbs to pull down its prey, such as bison and camels.  The saber-toothed cat probably bit into the unprotected, softer undersides of its prey so that its long slender canines wouldn't be broken by their bones.

The La Brea Tar Pits are a group of tar pits in urban Los Angeles, California. Natural asphalt (also called pitch or tar—brea in Spanish) has seeped up from the ground in this area for thousands of years. The tar is often covered with dust, leaves, or water. Over many centuries, the bones of animals that were trapped in the tar were preserved. The George C. Page Museum is dedicated to researching the tar pits and displaying specimens from the animals that died there. The La Brea Tar Pits are a registered National Natural Landmark.

The Ocelot is a wild cat distributed over South and Central America and Mexico, but has been reported as far north as Texas and in Trinidad, in the Caribbean.

The Ocelot's appearance is similar to that of the domestic cat. Its fur resembles that of a Clouded Leopard or Jaguar and was once regarded as particularly valuable. As a result, hundreds of thousands of Ocelots have been killed for their fur.
