A Cartoon Woodpecker in Poland

Zakuwam na Okraglo

The sender writes...
Well when you say "zakuwam na okraglo" everyone understands that you study all the time. But when we think what these words mean literally, we also get another meaning and it is shown in the postcard  (this is what woodpecker is doing).  It is an idiom, so we don't translate it literally it’s only shown this way in the postcard to be more interesting and funny.

This is postmarked from Poland in 2007.

I love how he is carving math problems into the tree ;-)

The Pileated Woodpecker is a very large North American woodpecker, roughly crow-sized, found in forests in eastern North America and some forests of Canada. It is also the largest woodpecker in the United States, except the possibly extinct Ivory-billed Woodpecker.

Woodpecker, a Young White-Backed Woodpecker

Ernst Dirksen Fotografie (Ernst Dirksen Photography)

There is no mention of what kind of bird this is.  I was thinking a Finch, but it was mentioned by my dear friend Kilona that it looks like a white-backed woodpecker.  If you search for young ones, this is what they look like :D
