An Eagle from the Brookfield Zoo in Illinois

Leah the Bald Eagle on loan to Brookfield Zoo from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service is an important part of children's Zoo's animal in action program because of an injury.  Leah could not survive in the wild.  In children's zoo, however, her demonstrations of her species' marvelous abilities help visitors appreciate the beauty and ecological importance of America's still-endangered national bird.

White Lion Cub

#16378 Although differing in color, the white lion (Felis leo) is actually of the same species as its tawny relatives.  Very rare, there are none known in the wild and only eight in captivity.  The Philadelphia Zoo has the only white lions on exhibit in the Western hemisphere.  The cubs are born snow-white with visible spots.  As they age the spots disappear and their fur tunes a pale yellow, due partly to the dust baths they enjoy.

Zebra (Equus burchelli) An adaptable animal, the zebra grazes on short grass, leaves, and shoots.  It is always found near a water supply and gathers in large herds.  No two zebras look the same.  All attempts to domesticate the zebra have failed.

Wilhelma, built as a royal palace, is now a 30-hectare (74-acre) zoo and botanical garden in the northern suburbs of Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is Europe's only large combined zoological and botanical garden, and is home to over 8,000 animals representing more than 1,000 different species, as well as more than 5,000 species of plants.

Weltvogelpark Walsrode (The name changed in 2010) is the largest bird park in the world in terms of species as well as land area. It covers 24 hectares (59 acres) and houses some 4,200 birds of over 675 species from every continent and climatic zone in the world.

The Biodome is divided into four ecosystems:
The Tropical Forest, (a replica of the South American rainforest)
The Laurentian Forest (a replica of the North American wilderness)
The Saint Lawrence Marine Eco-system (an estuary habitat modeled on the Gulf of Saint Lawrence)
and The Polar:  (an area divided into Arctic and Antarctic)

The Heimat-Tierpark Olderdissen is an urban zoo in the city of Bielefeld. It is on approximately 15 acres and has more than 450 animals and about 100 different species. The park was established in 1930.
