The Kalahari Resort & Convention Center in Wisconsin
in Dells, Wisconsin was America's largest indoor water park, until 2005 when it was surpassed by its sister resort in Sandusky, Ohio.
Kalahari's newest Resort and Convention Center in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania recently took this title in 2015 giving Kalahari the title of the World's Coolest Waterparks according to Conde Nast.

The sender writes:
We are enjoying our little vacation at the Kalahari Resort.  The kids are having so much fun!  We are attending the Autism Society of Wisconsin Conference. We saw a postcard, and thought of you!

The Kalahari Resorts and Conventions is named after the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa, hence the African theme at all the resorts. The lobbies have artificial fountains, trees, and animals that have been imported from local markets and shops in Africa.

Lucy the Elephant

Lucy the Elephant
"Lucy" is a National Historic Landmark.  She was built in 1881 by James Lafferty.  Lucy stands six stories tall and weights 90 tons.  Lucy was used as a function building.  Now visitors can tour inside for a small fee.

Lucy the Elephant is a six-story elephant-shaped example of novelty architecture, constructed of wood and tin sheeting in 1881 by James V. Lafferty in Atlantic County, New Jersey in an effort to sell real estate and attract tourism.

Today, Lucy is a tourist attraction. Guided tours take visitors into the building through the spiral staircase in the left rear leg up into the interior, then up again into the howdah to see views of Margate, the Atlantic City skyline, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Yala National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka. It covers 979 square kilometres (378 sq mi).

The park consists of five 'blocks', two of which are now open to the public, and also adjoining parks. The blocks have individual names such as, Ruhuna National Park (block 1) and Kumana National Park or 'Yala East' for the adjoining area.

Yala was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900 and is best known for its variety of wild animals. It is also important for the conservation of Sri Lankan Elephants and aquatic birds.

This was created for my friend Liese Henley, to commemorate
National Postcard Week 2013

After escaping from behind the German Iron Curtain at the age of 15, Liese had left behind her family and friends.  She spent most of he rest of her life a s a zookeeper and elephant trainer at various locations throughout the U.S.  Now handicapped by injuries from such a physically demanding job, Liese spends her time quietly lobbying for animal rights.  She loves to collect postcards and corresponds via snail-mail.

This photo was originally a postcard published in the 1970's which I have digitally altered here.
