The sender writes:

Happy Summer! We just broke a record - of having the hottest day in 120 years.  Today the temperature soared to 42 degrees C.!  This is very unusual as the summer temperate rarely goes over 35 degrees C. (usually 32 C. is the max).

--Then they go on to talk about the commemorative stamp.  However the stamp is missing on the card  ;-(

A polydactyl cat is a cat born with more than the usual number of toes on one or more of its paws.

Normal cats have a total of 18 toes, with five toes on each front paw and four toes on each hind paw; polydactyl cats may have as many as eight digits on their front and/or hind paws. Jake, a Canadian polydactyl cat with 28 toes, was recognised by Guinness World Records as having the highest number of toes on a cat.

The Panacea Cats at the Meat Counter

National Postcard Week
May 4-10, 2014

The Panacea Cats in Laurel, Mississippi

O'Bear gets upset with Gatsby because he doesn't sell mouse meat!  I tell him he can catch his own mice, but he claims that isn't dignified for a cat like him..

O'Bear and Missy were cats that belonged to the Elmo Mays family.  Gatsby is Spencer List's dog.  They live in Los Angeles, California.  Alain, Bobby and Colin Hain claim Coco as their cat.  Jupiter, Florida is their home.

This postcard was drawn by Rick Geary for Bette Mays in 2014.

A Sabertoothed Cat Skeleton, La Brea Tar Pits

Page Museum
La Brea Tar Pits

Saber-toothed Cat Skeleton
Smilodon fatalis
The saber-toothed cat was a powerful and efficient hunter.  It used its powerful forelimbs to pull down its prey, such as bison and camels.  The saber-toothed cat probably bit into the unprotected, softer undersides of its prey so that its long slender canines wouldn't be broken by their bones.

The La Brea Tar Pits are a group of tar pits in urban Los Angeles, California. Natural asphalt (also called pitch or tar—brea in Spanish) has seeped up from the ground in this area for thousands of years. The tar is often covered with dust, leaves, or water. Over many centuries, the bones of animals that were trapped in the tar were preserved. The George C. Page Museum is dedicated to researching the tar pits and displaying specimens from the animals that died there. The La Brea Tar Pits are a registered National Natural Landmark.

An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, Featuring a Dog, Cat, Mice and a Spider

An American Tail
Fievel Goes West

- - - - - - -

An American Tail: Fievel Goes West is a 1991 American animated western film produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblimation animation studio and released by Universal Pictures. It is the sequel to An American Tail.

The film follows the story of a family of Jewish-Russian mice who emigrate to the Wild West. In the film, Fievel Mousekewitz is separated from his family (again) as the train approaches the American Old West; the film chronicles Fievel and Sheriff Wylie Burp (voiced by James Stewart in his final film) teaching Tiger how to act like a dog.
