Jumpin' like a Rabbit!
Feelin' High as a Giraffe!
Up all nite like an Owl!

This is an unused, vintage mechanical postcard.  Turn the wheel and it will show you the different sayings that I posted above.  I paid $4.00 for this card a few years ago.

A Young Tawny Owl from Russia

The sender writes that they like to hike in the woods and have only seen owls 3 or 4 times because they are difficult to see.
There is no description on the back, but I think this might be a young Tawny Owl.

Great Horned Owlets

Great Horned owlets (Bubo virginiarius)
The great horned owl is the largest "eared" and best known common owl.  It hunts during the day, watching for prey from its low perch.  Its diet consists of rabbits, rodents and small birds.  It is one of the first birds to lay its eggs, which can be as early as late January.

A Great Grey Owl (Did you see the Baby?)

Lapinpollo
Strix nubulosa
Great Grey Owl

Metsäpalo kulki alueen läpi ammoisina aikoina; kelon hiiltynyt tervaskanto on siitä muistona.  Nyt se on oiva koti lapinpollolle.

The resinous stump of the charred snag is the reminder of an ancient forest fire.  Now it is a perfect home for the great grey owl.

The Owl From Harry Potter

Harry Potter

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hedwig is Harry Potter's owl. Hedwig is a Snowy Owl.

In the story, Hedwig is a gift to Harry from Hagrid in the first book of the series, purchased in Diagon Alley while shopping for supplies for Harry's first year at Hogwarts. The name Hedwig is a name Harry found in his schoolbook, A History of Magic. Hedwig is used for delivering messages throughout the series. She can act with hurt or anger due to Harry's sometimes innocently thoughtless actions or words. It is implied throughout the books that Hedwig can fully understand Harry, and to some extent vice versa.

At the start of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Hedwig is killed during Harry's escape from Privet Drive by a stray Killing Curse. According to Rowling, Hedwig's death represented the death of innocence.

Although Hedwig is a female owl, she is played by male owls in the films (distinguishable by the males' lack of black markings). Also, males are lighter and easier for the actor to hold up.
