A Horse Being Used to Haul and Cut Ice Blocks

National Postcard Week
May 4 - 10, 2014
Firelands Postcard Club

Every winter, ice and commercial fishing companies cut ice on Sandusky bay and stored the blocks in ice houses.  Horse-drawn cutters and large hand saws were used to cut blocks, which were poled along cut channels to the ice houses.  Blocks were packed in saw dust and used throughout the year - selling ice blocks and packing fish.

The Firelands Postcard Club meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month in Sandusky, Ohio.

This unused postcard is a Limited Edition of 750.
