Texas Longhorn
The Texas Longhorn is a tough Spanish breed brought to the New World by Columbus. These cattle survived well on the hot, arid plains of South Texas and could endure the 1000 mile trail to market in Kansas. Over the years the longhorn has been bred with other breeds to improve the beef quality but an original herd is protected at the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Range in Oklahoma.
